The long haul: I cracked the air nipple on the X1 extruder. The nipple was a real pain to deal with in the first place, so no big loss. And I had spares stashed away somewhere. I couldn't track down the spares, but I found an M5-nipple and a B'Struder that I printed a long time ago. The M5 nipple went on the B'Struder, so the B'Struder got swapped onto the X1. It worked better than with the broken nipple, but not all that great. The extruder wheel I had was for 3mm filament and I couldn't get the spring tension right. I like the B'Struder a lot, except for the spring that's hard to fit and hard to calibrate. On the other hand, the solution for the spring on the X1 is nice - I already had all the hardware and a few M10 air nipples. So I fired up the CAD software and made a B'Struder for the X1 parts minus the nipple. It works fantastic. I had to reverse the extruder motor in the first extruder swap. The process involves fiddling around with very small plastic parts that easily break with disastrous consequences. I decided against restoring the rotation to its original state. Please note: The pictures show a CV extruder, but the X1 motor is CCW original! Also note that the base of this B'Struder is thinner than on the original due to the plate holding the motor. Happy printing!
