Final Project: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZt4YDcrQ08 Link to our blog: https://svigermors.wordpress.com/ The speaker is incredibly easy to assemble and disassemble, making it a breeze for users to swap out the shell if it gets damaged or simply want to change the design of the speaker. We designed our speaker to be compact and versatile, fitting seamlessly into kitchens, offices, or any other space where sound quality takes a backseat to aesthetics. Weight We strategically placed the heavy components at the bottom of the speaker for maximum stability. By using a non-solid filament pattern, we also managed to reduce weight while maintaining structural integrity. The final result is a remarkably lightweight speaker weighing in at 700 grams. We created a simple cylindrical base that allows users to easily swap out custom shells and upgrade their design. Aesthetics are taken care of by the pre-made B&O shells and custom-made options, giving users endless possibilities for colors and customization. As we discovered during our sound test, larger cabinets produce better sound quality – but since our speaker is compact, it has its own sonic limitations. To minimize interference, we placed the tweeter directly above the woofer with a precise distance between them. Thanks to the cylindrical design, we were able to split the base into two separate parts, eliminating the need for support material and significantly reducing printing time. We even took it a step further by lasercutting the mounting plates to shave off precious hours and ensure pinpoint accuracy. With just one 3D printer, our print time clocks in at an impressive 40 hours. The cabinet features a medium-strength filling that offers remarkable durability – for added peace of mind, we mounted our speaker parts on a lasercut Acryl plate, which is far stronger than standard 3D prints and provides rock-solid stability. From the get-go, our internal design was crafted with ease of assembly in mind. Assembly & Maintenance The base features clever fittings that make it easy to assemble or disassemble – no tools required! Inside, everything is held together by tension and friction alone, eliminating the need for glues or screws. Our compact internal design makes it a breeze to navigate and work with. By following our instructions, users can easily connect all the internal bits and pieces. We made the switch from a Raspberry Pi 5V wall plug to a 5V USB cable, allowing users to power their speaker from any computer or phone charger – talk about flexibility! To keep things tidy, we designed the speaker to be plugged in via USB – no need for an interface on the device itself. Airplay connectivity is the name of the game here; users control volume, tracks, and more directly from their compatible device.
