Final Project: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZt4YDcrQ08 Link to our blog: https://svigermors.wordpress.com/ The speaker is incredibly easy to assemble and disassemble, making it effortless for users to swap out the shell if it breaks or simply want a new design. We've designed our speaker to be compact and versatile, fitting seamlessly into kitchens, offices, or any other space where size matters. While this compromises sound quality slightly, it perfectly complements its surroundings. Weight: To ensure stability, we've strategically placed the heaviest components at the bottom of the speaker. Additionally, we avoided using a solid filament pattern to keep things light. The result? A speaker that weighs in at 700 grams. For maximum customizability, we created a simple cylindrical base that's easy to swap out with new shells. This also allows users to choose their preferred colors for the base parts and shells, while the premade B&O designs add an extra touch of style. As our sound tests have shown, bigger cabinets equal better sound quality – so we knew our compact speaker had some limitations when it came to audio fidelity. To mitigate this, we placed the tweeter directly above the woofer, ensuring a precise distance between them to avoid any destructive interference. Thanks to its cylindrical shape, we were able to split the base into two parts without needing support material. This significantly reduced printing time and saved us hours of work – not to mention a ton of material waste. We also lasercut the mounting plates to further streamline our process and boost precision. With one 3D printer, it takes around 40 hours to complete the print job. The cabinet itself has a medium filling that's surprisingly robust and durable. To give us even more stability, we mounted our speaker components on a lasercut Acryl plate – which is stronger than your average 3D print. Our internal design is optimized for easy assembly, with fittings that make it a breeze to swap out parts if needed. Assembly & maintenance: The base is designed with ease of use in mind, featuring fittings that allow for quick and effortless disassembly. Inside, everything is held together by tension and friction – no glues or screws required. The internal design is remarkably compact, making it easy to navigate and maintain. As you'd expect, the internal components are carefully connected according to our earlier instructions. We made a clever switch from a Raspberry Pi 5V wall plug to a 5V USB cable, which can be used with any computer or phone charger – this helped us create an even more compact design. Our speaker requires a USB connection to function, and we've deliberately kept things simple by omitting any interface on the device. Instead, we're relying solely on AirPlay connectivity from compatible devices – so users will need to control volume, tracks, and other settings directly from their device.
