A Detailed Model of the B-52 Stratofortress Bomber Technical Notes A detailed model of the B-52 Stratofortress bomber is available with two texture configurations. The B-52 Stratofortress is a long-range, subsonic jet-powered strategic bomber operated by the United States Air Force (USAF) since 1955. Two texture maps are included: the NASA texture map and the USAF texture map. Textures High-quality textures are provided, including detailed diffuse maps with a maximum dimension of 4096 pixels. The textures offer realistic visual fidelity for the model. History The B-52 Stratofortress was developed through several design steps following the successful contract bid on June 5, 1946. From an initial straight-wing aircraft powered by six turboprop engines to the final prototype YB-52 with eight turbojet engines, the aircraft's design evolved significantly. The first flight of the B-52 took place on April 15, 1952, piloted by Tex Johnston. Built for nuclear deterrence missions during the Cold War era, the B-52 Stratofortress replaced the Convair B-36. Although involved in various conflicts, the Stratofortress has only deployed conventional munitions in actual combat. With an unrefueled range unmatched by contemporary bombers, the B-52 can carry up to 70,000 pounds (32,000 kg) of weapons. Product Details The model is priced at $119.00 and was added to our collection on August 6, 2015. The last update was made on October 21, 2015, with a product ID of 55c3592eccff75b0688b45ae.
