This stunning azurite crystal exhibits a striking stellate form. Azurite, scientifically known as Cu3(CO3)2(OH)2, gets its name from its vibrant azure hue, which is just one of several common copper carbonates that emerge when copper sulphide ore bodies undergo oxidation. It frequently appears alongside malachite, another copper carbonate with a distinctive green tint visible in this specimen, due to their similar composition but distinct colour variations resulting from the varying coordination state of the copper ion.
