Aztec Calendar - Sun Stone
myminifactory
This 3D model draws inspiration from the Sun Stone, an enigmatic monolith/sculpture unearthed in Mexico City, the Aztec Capital, in the late 1700s. Its exact significance remains a topic of debate - it could be deeply rooted in spiritual matters, tied to cosmological principles, related to geographical locations, or perhaps even serve as a calendar. To me, its unique design is undeniably captivating! My approach was to create a detailed sketch and then extrude various sections to varying heights, giving the model a sense of depth and dimensionality. If I'm being completely honest, I would have loved to attempt to render it in two distinct layers so that you could paint the calendar on one section, only to wipe away the excess details from the higher areas. However, with such an intricately complex design, I feared that this approach might result in a model that appears overly simplistic. That being said, if there's enough interest, I'd be more than happy to revisit the design and attempt to split it into two separate sections, just to see how the final result turns out.
