Bull of Azaila. Figure of a bull in an attitude of going on a charge, well modelled and with characteristics reminiscent of ancient Iberian stone sculpture, such as the deep incisions to mark the folds of the neck. It has a rosette on the forehead and spikes under the hooves that would serve to stuff them into a pedestal, and which are the remains of the casting cones. He wore a U-shaped piece of bronze on his neck with a hole at each end, which looks like a cauldron handle, but which has sometimes been interpreted as a yoke that would indicate his involvement in plowing tasks. Next to the bull, a white-washed plough and part of the pedestal supporting the figure were found. This small figure was found in a trapezoid-shaped enclosure that was accessed by a descending staircase lined with plaster, in the city of Azaila. A site created during the time of the late Fields of Urns, and whose Celtic population, is iberian and is known to have belonged to the Sedetan peoples, a pre-Roman people who along with the Ilergetes there are authors who believe that can be framed within the populations of Celtic origin, although others consider them Iberian. The space where it was found has been identified as an Iberian temple or "Temple A of Azaila", which would constitute an "entrance sanctuary", located next to the entrance door to the town, although some authors doubt it. The "entrance sanctuaries" were urban sanctuaries that in the Iberian populations were dedicated to divinities related to the passage rituals, fertility and protection of the territory. In this case, it would represent a cult of the bull, which symbolizes the fertilizing force of nature, necessary for survival and prosperity, reinforced by the rosette on the testicle, which many bulls wore during the festivities when they entered the temple. #Art # #Bull #Azaila # #fgarte # #3d #art #Arthur # #Artoma #
