Azadi Tower - Iran
myminifactory
Welcome to Iran! The Freedom Tower stands tall in Azadi Square, Tehran, a monument that marks the west entrance to the city and is part of the vibrant Azadi Cultural Complex. The complex boasts an underground museum, adding another layer of cultural richness to this already impressive site. The tower itself is 45 meters (148 ft) high and made entirely of intricately cut marble. Commissioned by Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, Iran's last Shah, it was designed to commemorate the country's 2,500th year of founding the Imperial State of Iran. Architect Hossein Amanat took on the challenge of designing this iconic tower after winning a prestigious competition. His vision drew inspiration from classical and post-classical Iranian architecture, reflecting the art scene's evolution in the 1960s following the White Revolution. This movement sparked modernization programs across the country, catapulting the art industry into a period of remarkable growth and innovation.
