I've been trying out some cheap dogbones but nothing fits perfectly in the original setup. So I decided to fabricate an axle extender for this purpose. The outer ring provides additional strength, and it fits well without any issues or you can use a little glue depending on your print quality. HSP 02024 steel gears were used for this project. The gearhousing was sourced from https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:631901/.
