Born as William Bruce Rose Jr. in Lafayette, Indiana, a thriving Midwestern city located near the Canadian border in the United States, Rose would be the eldest son of Sharon Elizabeth Falkenhörst Leitner, just 16 years old and still enrolled in high school at that time, and William Bruce Rose Caulfield, who was 20 years old in 1962.8 Rose has a Scottish heritage on his father's side and German roots through his mother. His parents separated when Rose was just three years old. His mother went on to marry Stephen L. Bailey, and she changed her son's name to William Bruce Bailey. Rose also has two brothers on his mother's side, born from this second marriage, Amy and Stuart.8 The Bailey family is deeply religious, and they all attended a Pentecostal church three to eight times a week, in addition to participating in Sunday school classes.
