After months of designing and some testing, I've decided to share the files I made instead of trying to sell a premade bolt on conversion kit.Print settings at the bottom. I'll add a hardware list later hopefully. Check pictures for additional details on setup. I tried to describe everything, but the pictures will hopefully clear up any confusion.This is my first 3d project, so please ask questions or leave any comments you may have. I have some videos on youtube that may help as well.https://youtube.com/@bualdoot83This design makes it fairly simple to convert your Axial SCX6 into a 6x6. The hardest part is getting the proper spacing from the middle (2nd) axle, to the rear (3rd) axle. If you put them too close together, it is very difficult to make a drive shaft between them that wont either bind up, or just pop apart when either axle moves upward. The 3rd axle also needs to be installed upside down in order for the tires to spin the proper direction. Which means, you need to trim off the axle reinforcement stuff, or have the potential for more things to drag on rocks. I haven't trimmed mine off, and so far it works pretty good. However, I've only done one trail run after creating a differential cover design that didn't break, and instead my steering servo died towards the end. Anyway, on to a little info of the parts.I created the differential cover as a pass-through differential cover that works with the plastic Axial housing. So, the 3rd axle is driven by the 2nd axle. No need to mount a second motor/transmission! Simply get a pinion gear set and the two bearings that the pinion goes through. Then, get longer bolts to hold the cover on. The bolt holes go all the way through, so, the longer the better.The outer bearing is a bit tight going in. Place bearing flat on table, then press diff cover down onto it. Internal bearing might be slightly loose. I don't recall if I made the hole slightly smaller yet on this version or not.As a disclaimer, I can't guarantee this cover has the perfect gear mesh. So far, it has worked great, and I don't hear any slipping of the gears. But, I haven't done enough trail runs yet to see just how long the gears last.The frame extension is pretty simple, so not much to say about it. But, I used really long bolts, along with angle iron on the sides, to lower that chance of cracking the extension around the bolts. My first trail run attempt cracked the extension around one of the bolts that mounts the 4 link suspension. With the angle iron and bolts that are almost half the width of extension, I haven't had any more issues. If you have the Honcho, the cage will mount to the same location after installing the frame extension. So you can still open the body as normal, it just won't open as far.I used a set of metal shock towers below the frame extension for mounting the 4 link suspension, and another set for the shocks. Slide extension into metal frame rails (may need to loosen on side of frame rail). Place the bottom shock tower into place with one bolt through the mount and through the 3rd hole back from the front of extension. Then, mark the location of the front mount hole on stock metal frame rails, and then drill the hole through the metal rails.I used 1/4"-20 All thread for my 4 links, using Axial link ends. Axial sells them as a pack, and don't forget the pack of ball joint things for the link ends.Outer links are about 96mm longInner links are about 130mmPRINT SETTINGSQuality 0.16mm layer heightPrint temp 200 cBed 60 cGenerate support (touching buildplate, zig zag pattern, over 51 degrees)Build plate adhesion type BrimPrint the diff cover with 100% infill. At lower infill, it liked to separate where it contacts the axle housing. For print orientation, set it with the flat side down ( the side that the pinion gear end comes out of, where the 3rd axle drive shaft will be). This way, there should only be a little circular support printed inside the outer bearing hole.For the frame extension, I believe I did 20-30% infill, but also increased the wall thickness. Bottom side down on build plate. The other settings should be the same.
