Axial SCX24 C10 Trailer Hitch with Rear Lights

thingiverse

This is another hitch for the SCX24, now with lights. Mounts between the frame/body posts, with space for 5mm LED rear lights, a hitch ball, and safety chain. Based on the design by https://www.thingiverse.com/themikesterdesigns and remixed https://www.thingiverse.com/mike190282, which I recreated in OnShape to change the dimensions of the tongue and work with a pack of ball head screws that I already had. v2 adds an inner bumper with 4 sockets for 5mm LEDs, which can be single-color or RGB Neopixels. Using Neopixels and an external controller, the upper socket can be used as a turn signal. The m2 nuts are press-fit into the bottom of the hitch, preventing them from spinning and making them harder to lose. The ball head screw can be replaced with another m2 screw or stud, depending on the trailer. ## Hitch Hardware: - 1x m2 screw, 8mm or longer - 1x m2 ball head screw: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B087X7TLYP - 1x m2 (or m1.4) silicone washer - 1x m2 flat washer - 2x m2 nuts Assembly: - using a hammer and flat surface (or screw and tension), press two m2 nuts into the countersunk holes on the bottom of the hitch - place a silicone washer on the m2 ball stud - place a flat washer on the m2 screw - screw the m2 ball stud into the end of the hitch tongue - screw the m2 screw into the side of the hitch tongue - open the truck - unscrew the two m1.4 screws holding the body hinge onto the frame - remove the body hinge, body, and bumper assembly from the truck - unscrew the four m1.4 screws holding the bumper to the body hinge - loosen or completely remove the two m1.4 screws holding the body to the body hinge - optional: install lights into hitch - place the hitch in between the body hinge posts - secure bumper to body hinge (prevents posts from spinning during the next step) - secure body to body hinge - replace body hinge on frame, making sure the pins on the hinge arms line up, and secure ## Lights Hardware: - 4x 5mm LED - 2x resistors, value depends on LED color (f.ex, 47 ohm for each pair of red) - 1x 2 pin dupont connector Assembly: - press an LED into each socket, making sure the anode (typically the longer pin) is at the top - solder the inner pair of pins (cathode of the top bulb to anode of the bottom, f.ex) - solder a resistor onto the anode of each pair - solder leads from the cathode of each pair to the negative side of a dupont cable - solder leads from the resistor of each pair to the positive side of a dupont cable
