Axe Head, Caerlaverock Castle
sketchfab
Dating back to the medieval period, archaeologists unearthed this axe head during extensive excavations at Caerlaverock Castle in Dumfries and Galloway between 1955 and 1966. This type of axe earns its nickname "bearded axe" due to its uniquely splayed blade shape. Craftsmen deliberately designed it in this way to optimize the cutting edge, while minimizing overall weight. For more information on Caerlaverock Castle, visit our website at your convenience.
