Axe Head, Caerlaverock Castle

sketchfab

Dating back to the medieval period, this axe head was discovered during excavations at Caerlaverock Castle in Dumfries and Galloway between 1955 and 1966. This type of axe is known as a bearded axe because of its splayed blade shape. It was designed in this way to maximise the cutting edge, and minimise its overall weight.
