Axe Enhancements

Axe Enhancements

I wanted to transform an old axe into a unique sculpture. I began by smoothing out the wood and metal with a sander and then chiseled away a section to make room for an inlaid piece I designed using 3D printing software - specifically, a model of the AXE logo emblazoned on hair products. Next, I drilled holes through the handle and installed a strand of battery-operated IKEA lights within them. To accommodate the batteries' power switch case, I came up with a 3D design that featured a recess for a magnet to secure it to the axe blade's rear surface. The model also included a passageway to conceal excess wiring. Unfortunately, my extruder malfunctioned during printing, leaving my Da Vinci 1.0 temporarily out of commission. Despite this setback, the partial print still provided sufficient structural integrity for its original purpose. My wife didn't appreciate having it hang in our living room, so our daughter proudly displays it now. For a deeper look at what inspired me to create this piece, check out my blog post at http://museumofperipheralart.blogspot.com/2015/01/girl-with-axe.html.
