Place an avocado seed, root (fat) end down and float this in a bowl of water. It takes several weeks, but you should get an avocado plant growing. These are more decorative than "grow your own guacamole," as it usually takes 5-8 years for one to fruit, if it ever does. The holes are for a toothpick with an information "flag" as to species, date started, etc., if desired. There are lots of avocado seed growing tips on the web, so I'm not going to waste space here on them.
