Avio MK2 Gear Drive ABEC Clone Adaptor
thingiverse
This is an adapter I designed specifically for use with Avio MK2 Gear Drive and ABEC Clone wheel cores. Avio himself offers a fantastic gear drive that was originally intended for Haggyboard Bergmeister wheels, and he also sells an optional adapter for urethane wheels featuring ABEC or Kegel core styles. Unfortunately, his adapter does not work for ABEC Clone cores, such as those found on the Cal-7 wheels from 97mm, or the upcoming Cloudwheel 120D Discovery wheels. These are the exact wheels I had in mind when designing this adapter, as smaller wheels simply do not have enough clearance on the gear drives. My adapters fit snugly into my own Cal-7's with a bit of force, and overall it is a very precise fit. Hopefully, they will work seamlessly with all clone style cores. I HAVE NOT ROAD-TESTED THESE ADAPTERS, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK Print settings: -Slow and hot: I turned off my cooling fan for the entire print to achieve the best layer adhesion possible. This results in a bit of stringiness and drooping inset screw seats, but that is preferable to your adapters snapping when you put pressure on them. -Thick and dense: I printed with 5 shells and 0% infill. Yes, zero percent! However, I upped the number of solid bottom layers to ensure the whole part prints solid with alternating layer directions. -Different settings for different printers: The rest is up to your printer's specific needs. Try to optimize layer adhesion as much as possible without compromising dimensional accuracy. Stuff required: -12x 40mm M5 button head screws (6 per adapter) -12x 10mm M5 socket cap screws (6 per adapter, or possibly only 3 per adapter needed) -Drill and a 3/6ths drill bit (The holes are intentionally small. Possibly not necessary.) *Avio's kit uses three screws per wheel, but since we are printing in soft plastic rather than CNC'ing POM, I recommend using the additional screws if you have them. **If you have good hardware and a good driver, you can really tighten down without needing to drill. Either way, it requires some elbow grease. WARNING - THE SCREWS WILL COME OUT HOT FROM THE FRICTION OF THREADING THE PLASTIC. Don't say I didn't warn you. I assume you found this on forum.esk8.news, but if not and you want to learn more about electric skateboards from the coolest cats around, come over and introduce yourself! If you are from the forum, let me know there how these work for you! I'll make any revisions I need to.
