Aviation style illuminated switch
thingiverse
This is a 3D printed case to hold a pair of LEDs and an economical tactile push button switch, creating a fake Tellite/aviation style illuminated backlit push button switch. To complete it, you'll need to print out a label on paper and laser cut a clear acrylic lens (14x20.5mm in size, approximately 2mm thick). The project consists of three 3D printed parts: the outer case, the inner button pusher, and the button/LED holder. Once all parts are assembled, glue the button holder to the outer case. You can also glue in the button and LEDs, but since the button is captured by the button pusher and the button holder, gluing it in place may not be necessary, and the LEDs should fit snugly with a slight friction. However, your mileage may vary. To achieve smooth action, you might need to sand down the sides and corners of the button holder slightly. The latest OpenSCAD file switch.scad is available here: https://github.com/smcameron/snis-consoles/tree/master/src/models The metallic silver finish on the switch face plate in the photo is simply aluminum HVAC tape.
