In 2013, AutoVisie, a renowned Dutch car magazine, organized a design contest for the year 2025. My entry in this contest secured fourth place overall. The design was based on the premise that by 2025, due to growing urbanization and technological advancements, there will be limited space for individual vehicle ownership and rising costs will discourage people from owning cars. This would lead to a surge in demand for taxis and public transportation. Hence, the car could also serve as a taxi, driving customers around while earning a living for its owner. Additionally, it could cater to the business transport needs of large corporations who would prefer luxury vehicles with mobile meeting rooms. To achieve this, the design features a hydrogen fuel-cell drivetrain housed in a skateboard-like structure at the bottom. Four in-wheel engines drive the wheels, providing an aggressive stance. The roof functions as an interactive map using head-up technology to project a city map on the glass and indicate nearby points of interest. The car has a distinctive design influenced by the vision that by 2025, radical new shapes may not be accepted. Hence, it maintains recognizable proportions while being stretched for additional space. The vehicle is accessible from the rear, and passengers can move and rotate individual seats on a rail system. The drive-by-wire steering column adds to the car's modularity, allowing easy conversion for left-, middle-, or right-hand drive. It also accommodates wheelchair accessibility. The vehicle measures 4.9 meters in length, 2.3 meters in width, 1.8 meters in height, and has a wheelbase of 3.9 meters. Panels are designed for easy replacement after crashes or when desiring a different color, with simple production methods like injection-molding and hydroforming used. Seats are made using an injection-molded plastic rear, offering recycling possibilities for every body part. The model was processed and created by my colleagues at All in Plast in Oud-Beijerland, The Netherlands.
