Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva in the Water-Moon Form (Shuiyue Guanyin)
myminifactory
This statue showcases Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva in the Water-Moon Form, also known as Shuiyue Guanyin. Among many manifestations of the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, this uniquely Chinese form was extremely widespread in East Asia, eventually spreading to Korea and Japan. The Water-Moon Avalokiteshvara sits in his own paradise, Potolaka, a rugged seaside cave where he could gaze at the moon's reflection in the water. He appears calm and meditative, seated informally in the "royal-ease" posture. Ornately dressed in silk robes, fluttering sashes, jewelry, and an elaborate hairstyle, he wears a headpiece featuring Amitabha, the Buddha he attends to. Devotees may look to this sculpture as a guide for their own paths towards enlightenment.
