Autumn at the Palais des Beaux-Arts de Lille, France

This sculpture comes courtesy of Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (June 12, 1824 – June 4, 1887) who kicked off his artistic journey as a goldsmith's apprentice. His remarkable career is marked by versatility and a knack for working outside France: in England between 1850 and 1855 (where he worked at Mintons), and in Brussels around 1871. Carrier-Belleuse's name resonates with art lovers because Auguste Rodin served as his assistant from 1864 to 1870. The two traveled to Brussels in 1871, and by some accounts, Rodin helped Carrier-Belleuse craft architectural sculptures for the Brussels Stock Exchange. He was also appointed artistic director at the Manufacture nationale de Sèvres in 1876. His impressive body of work encompasses a wide range of sculptural subjects and materials, reflecting his naturalism through diverse styles: unadorned Realism, neo-Baroque grandeur, and Rococo refinement.
