Automotive Differential Demonstration Model
thingiverse
This is a 3:1 automotive open differential demonstration model. This type of differential can be found on rear wheel drive cars and allows each wheel to turn independent of one another. I created this model as a technical challenge for myself with the intension of it being used as a a DIY kit given to children to build and use as an educational demonstration model. The gears and shafts were separated to help reduce print times. I opted to use 3mm wooden dowel to pin them together. I have included a 1:1 floor plan to help position the supports but this is to be used as a guide only. I have also listed the wheels as optional as I ended up using two salvaged hoverboard tyres and built the rims around these dimensions but any type of wheel can be attached.
