Automatic Transmission Selector

Automatic Transmission Selector

thingiverse

This is a custom selector designed for automatic transmission (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1094616).\nIt features an interlock mechanism and manual mode functionality, making it work just like a real one. I created this model because I'm planning to 3D print my own automatic transmission and install solenoids controlled by Arduino to select between modes, and even choose each gear manually.\nThe idea is that I have an engine model that runs just like a real engine and I want to put the automatic transmission in place with all the related parts, simulating a car running on the road.\nI already have a functional program for Arduino that controls the solenoids on my automatic transmission, and I've got the engine model up and running too. So now all I need is a 3D printer to print out the transmission, selector, differential, and other components required. The wheels will be connected to a massive flywheel to simulate momentum, just like a real moving car.\nThis project might not appeal to everyone, but I'm excited to share it anyway.\nTo build this thing you'll need 3mm rods, some springs, and a 5mm steel ball (similar to those used in ball bearings).\nThe Y axis has special holders designed for adding a cover strip. Since that particular part is pretty thin, it might be more practical to print out your own cover strips using materials like paperboard or cardstock.\nFeel free to reach out if you have any questions.\n \n \nHere's a video showcasing my engine:\n\nUpdate Log:\n02/15/2016\nExpanded the rail hole on top cover for Y axis cover strip\n01/01/2016\nDesigned a handle that is both smoother and taller than before, while reinforcing parts of the Y_Axis mechanism\n12/30/2015\nStrengthened key areas of the Manual_Mode_Interlock and X_Axis mechanisms
