I began using mostly dry potting soil, requiring an initial surge of water from the container before reaching a suitable moisture level in the soil, which ultimately established a stable equilibrium. I've also learned that it's advisable to water your plant and wet the wick first when employing the "wicking" method to prevent excessive water usage and initiate capillary action. Consider the size of your plant and pot to determine the optimal amount of water and bottle size needed. After testing, I was able to achieve five days of watering before the bottle reached nearly half its capacity (1.89 L). To refine my initial design, I've made some adjustments to make it less bulky in appearance. I've modified the nozzle end for the wick and the overall width of the device. Additionally, I've added a cap, allowing you to close the top if desired; however, I recommend leaving a small opening for air exchange and water replacement. To enhance versatility, I've included various container/bottle adapters and an extension tube. You may need to modify the adapters to fit your specific container. I've attached my 3D ipt files for reference. Required materials include: A long wick made from absorbent material like cotton, extending from the soil (at least 4 cm deep) through the plant waterer's tube into the water container, touching its base. A large bottle or similar water container with a neck for attaching the auto-plant waterer. And of course, water!
