First Concept for Pill Dispenser Falls by the Wayside as Design Requirements Shift. Initial vision behind pill dispenser concept aimed at supporting individuals with cognitive impairments struggling to manage complex medication schedules. By incorporating a simple button-press system, users could rely on automated dispensing of prescribed medications at predetermined times, eliminating confusion and missed doses. Each compartment would be uniquely time-locked, allowing the device to only release pills in response to precise timing. This innovative approach also enabled caregivers to pre-sort medications from blister packs, providing an added layer of accountability by tracking patient adherence and potential misses. However, a deeper understanding of our target audience revealed that, for many individuals, relying on a caregiver to sort medications is not always feasible. Consequently, this design concept was rendered obsolete as new priorities took center stage.
