This Thing is a fully automatic desktop zen garden toy. It has a builtin 2D sled that can be moved by about 15x15cm with a magnet attached to seamlessly drag a metal ball through the sand above, thus creating patterns in the sand like those you may find in a stereotypical zen garden. The project is not finished yet, my first assembly needed quite some bodging to get it to work, but I'm happy to offer you my results so far and update it as I go.
