After the hot-end makes contact with the bed, the Z-axis movement stops. It is recommended to use this feature with an auto bed leveling system in Marlin firmware. Here's my configuration for Marlin: X_PROBE_OFFSET_FROM_EXTRUDER is set to 0, Y_PROBE_OFFSET_FROM_EXTRUDER is also 0, and Z_PROBE_OFFSET_FROM_EXTRUDER is 0.4.
