Auto Top-Off for Carnivorous Plant Tray
thingiverse
After acquiring a Venus Fly Trap I learned that they grow well when sitting in a tray of water to stay moist. There seems to be a little bit of disagreement on whether the tray should be allowed to evaporate in-between waterings or if it's ok to stay constantly wet. As somewhat of an experiment, I've designed this auto top-off that will automatically maintain a constant level of water in the tray for a long period of time! I'm not sure exactly how long it will last yet, but I will update this listing once I have a better idea. I originally got this idea of using an upside-down water bottle from the aquarium hobby, as I've seen it used for the same reason there. This is currently designed to fit a 20 oz Gatorade bottle. Just add the print onto the top of the bottle, fill with distilled water, and flip it over into your tray! The water in the tray will not surpass the lip of the bottle but water from the bottle will automatically go into the tray as it evaporates. I left enough room so that the Gatorade cap can still be screwed onto the bottle. It's a little bit awkward but I find it less messy if you leave the cap on and then remove it once it's upside-down in the tray.
