Like any machinery, there's always a risk of malfunction or fires, no matter how small. It's essential to have something in place to shut down the printer. The device automatically cuts off power to your printer when a wireless smoke detector senses smoke or a fire present. Easy to use and operate, you can use one transmitter to match multiple socket receivers or program more than one transmitter for each socket. ### How to Build It To build this auto-shutoff system, you'll need: * 1 x remote control power outlet (isolated power supply, 10A resettable fuse) * 1 x smoke detector (tiny optical) * 1 x radio transmitter If you don't feel like building it yourself, you can simply purchase the complete system from Tindie for $29. ### Soldering the Radio Transmitter to the Detector To connect the radio transmitter to the smoke detector, follow these steps: * Locate the header on the detector's PCB that contains 3 pins: G/S/V. + G: negative power supply + S: signal output + V: positive power supply * Identify the two pins on the radio transmitter (GND/VDD). + VDD: positive power supply + GND: negative power supply * Solder the radio transmitter's 'GND'/'VDD' line to the detector's 'S'/'V'. When the smoke detector senses smoke or fire, it will set the 'S' voltage from 3.3v to zero, triggering the 433MHz radio transmitter to send a signal closing the power socket. ### Pairing Wireless Between Power Socket and Smoke Detector To pair the wireless connection between the power socket and smoke detector: 1. Power on both devices (2 AAA batteries). 2. Press and hold the Power socket's button until the LED flashes. 3. Click the button on the smoke detector. 4. The LED on the Power socket will flash quickly, indicating a successful pairing. https://youtu.be/5yT8nklCmxI
