Auto bed level (shown on Solidoodle 3)

UPDATE: Some disturbing news has been revealed!\nI am deeply sorry for the scarcity of updates regarding this topic, but a sequence of unfortunate events severely impeded my progress. While implementing improvements to a more efficient heating platform, I destroyed 3 transistors, one atmega processor, one power supply, and snapped two extruder mounts while doing so. Just a few missing components will enable me to return and continue my work.\nA preliminary Thingiverse model has been made until I complete the remaining parts and update the gallery with video footage and additional pictures. This device is another innovative auto bed leveling system designed to be adaptable to your 3D printer, which I initially developed for my Solidoodle 3. Another auto bed level is needed because performing manual leveling after each print was extremely tiresome, and due to the absence of servos at the time, I aimed to create a device using an opto-switch from a salvaged older printer. This device includes: It makes use of an opto-switch (or opto-endstop) The mechanism is spring loaded for smooth operation. No extra servos or pin connections are needed. The process of printing and setting up this gadget is quite straightforward. If the extruder moves towards the bed with the nail extended by chance, some flexibility allows it to bend slightly before finally breaking without causing any harm to the bed or surrounding parts. Initial Test: The printed cylinder visible in these pictures was indeed made using the level un-even surface as well, which shows a testament of success, mainly due to the features embedded in the Marlin auto-bed-leveling module. A closer look at it in action can be seen here: http://youtu.be/xx5szf5JKZQ http://youtu.be/LzPoxXpYCF8 Below is the essential step-by-step procedure needed to put this device into operation. Details on each step will follow shortly, however, as of now you require: One Spring with acceptable size and suitable strength. One pre-assembled 2" nail. One magnet (8mm in diameter). Modified version of Lawsy's MK5 extruder mount files available below (modified to be incorporated within the design files included for reference purposes). Two Screws will also be needed once their specific size is finalized.
With this file you will be able to print Auto bed level (shown on Solidoodle 3) with your 3D printer. Click on the button and save the file on your computer to work, edit or customize your design. You can also find more 3D designs for printers on Auto bed level (shown on Solidoodle 3).
