Australopithecus boisei discovered in Ileret, East Turkana, Kenya, 1.5 million years ago. The fossil is preserved in an epoxy resin cast measuring 152 mm long, 91 mm wide, and 108 mm high. RLA catalog no. 2501.1rp46 (cast) identifies the fossil specimen as KNMER 732, a partial cranium unearthed by M. Mutua during the Koobi Fora Research Project under Richard Leakey's leadership in 1970. Researchers speculate that the fossil may belong to a female Australopithecus boisei. Additionally, some scientists classify it as Paranthropus crassidens. The cast was manufactured without disclosing its creator. This teaching model is part of the Research Laboratories of Archaeology collection at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was designed by Joy Mersmann.
