Australopithecus africanus, a significant fossil find from Sterkfontein, South Africa, dates back approximately 2.5 million years ago. A meticulous epoxy resin cast preserves the specimen's dimensions: length reaches 185 mm, width spans 121 mm, and height measures 112 mm. RLA catalog number 2501.1rp94 (cast) identifies this fossil, which was first unearthed in 1947 by Robert Broom and John T. Robinson. The nearly complete adult cranium has earned the nickname "Mrs. Ples". A collaboration between the Wenner-Gren Foundation Casting Program at the University Museum of the University of Pennsylvania and Steve Davis resulted in the creation of this model, now part of the teaching collection at the Research Laboratories of Archaeology, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
