Australopithecus afarensis, a human ancestor, was discovered in Hadar, Ethiopia, dating back approximately 3.6-2.9 million years ago. A life-like replica of the mandible is crafted from epoxy resin cast, measuring 125 mm in length, 133 mm in width, and 87 mm in height. RLA catalog number 2501.1rp13-2 (cast) identifies this specimen. The fossil was unearthed by Yoel Rak in 1992, revealing a male mandible that exhibits evidence of sexual dimorphism. A model created by Bone Clones, Inc., is part of the teaching collection at the Research Laboratories of Archaeology, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and designed by Jordyn Gray.
