Auger-based feeder for animals, fish etc using Nema 17 stepper motor
thingiverse
An ingenious design for a programmable pet feeder comes alive with an auger-based feeder system tailored specifically to Nema 17 stepper motors. This innovative solution allows for automated feeding of pets on a timer, in precise quantities or even remotely controlled by integrating a Raspberry Pi or Arduino. Perfectly suited for use in pet feeders, aquaponics systems and related applications. I successfully printed all components in PLA material, with the auger being printed vertically for optimal functionality. To reinforce the feeder unit's backside, I employed knurled brass threaded inserts with an outside diameter of 6mm. These can be sourced from eBay listings like this one: http://www.smooth-on.com/Epoxy-Coatings-XTC/c1397_1429/index.html. To secure these inserts in place, I melted them using a soldering iron and the technique outlined in this YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUEFhiFB6Zs. Assembly of the feeder system involves screwing the motor plate to the Nema 17 stepper motor, then attaching the auger to the stepper using a 3mm screw and nut inserted into the bottom of the auger. Once the auger is securely attached, the entire assembly can be inserted into the feeder unit and secured with 4mm screws. Feedback on this project is always welcome.
