I already had a magnetic phone holder (Google/Amazon: Automobio) in my A3 P8, but soon the ventilation mounting ripped out the plastic air guide. I needed a more reliable solution, so I turned to undergroundsurf's great idea for a magnetic mount. This construction is as simplified as possible - just slide your mobile out and push it down. To ensure the back of the phone has enough metal for the magnet to hold onto, you'll need a small steel plate. The easiest way to do this is by placing a thin steel plate between your mobile cover and the phone itself. I mounted my Automobio magnet holder with an M3x6mm Allen key screw. If you want to build the magnet holder yourself, you can remix undergroundsurf's construction (STEP file also attached) and integrate 3-4 Neodym magnets from eBay. Make sure to add a steel plate behind the magnets for increased holding force. To prevent your mobile from slipping down due to the magnets, apply some sticky silicon sheet/tape (like rescue tape).
