The Audi R8 is a sports car from Audi that was presented to the public in September 2006. Apart from its name and mid-engine layout, the production car has nothing in common with the Audi R8 Le Mans racing prototypes, which were entered by or for Audi in the Le Mans 24 Hours and other endurance races from 1999 to 2005. From fall 2006 to the end of 2014, a total of 26,037 R8s were produced from the first generation, of which 5626 were newly registered in Germany, according to the Federal Motor Transport Authority. The second R8 generation has been in production since 2015. The facelift was launched at the beginning of 2019 and the tenth anniversary of the V10 engine was celebrated at the same time with the special Audi R8 Decennium model. The special model is limited to 222 units worldwide and cost €222,000 in Germany. At the 2019 Audi Annual General Meeting, CEO Abraham Schot announced that the Audi R8 would be discontinued as part of a realignment of vehicle models.
