Audeze Penrose Cup band replacement
thingiverse
This is a replacement cup holder for the Audeze Penrose and Penrose X headsets. The original was pretty weak and cracked within a few months of use. I tried an alternative for a while, but I found the band to look out of place and didn't quite fit 100%. I redesigned this one from scratch using the original broken part and hard 3 iterations, especially due to the assembly that mates with the headband. This part fits pretty tightly initially, but it is because my print was a bit stringy. After a good bit of cleanup, it has held up for 3 months of nearly daily wear, and also travels with me to work ending up in a backpack at some point. This model is interchangable for both sides, simply mirror the print accordingly to get the other side. The default side for this print is the LEFT ear cup (the cup with the buttons, charge port and mic boom connection. It is VERY tricky to remove the original part as the wires are fed through a moulded part. I carefully cut away at the original plastic with my trim pliers, careful not to cut the wire as there is a charged litium cell in the other cup. Eventually I freed the cable and made my design open so that you can install the cable without resoldering it. This works fine, and has held up to months of abuse without ever getting out. If this is a problem, use a bit of silicon adhesive in the cable channel before assembly. You have to use supports, and I had trouble with curling when printing at 0.1mm with my FDM printer. Your mileage might vary, but I would recommend printing this on an SLA printer with nylon if you have access to one. This is not a project for a novice. Unless you have experience with repairing sensitive electronics without breaking them further, I cannot recommend this and cannot take responsibility if you screw up your headset. This will also void your warranty. You've been warned, good luck...
