Attic sarcophagus in the form of a couch

Attic sarcophagus in the form of a couch

myminifactory

Discovered in Athens. This sarcophagus has been reused twice. Initially, it featured an illustration of a reclining married couple on its lid, which resembles a mattress in form. However, when economic hardships necessitated its reuse at a later time, the male figure was significantly reduced and replaced by a cluster of papyrus scrolls (byblos), while the female head was exchanged for that of a man.
