The Ure Museum houses a stunning Lekythos, dating back to 550-525 BCE. This ancient vessel showcases exceptional craftsmanship in its Attic Black Figure Terracotta material. The mouth is adorned with a bold red lip, framed by a black interior. On the shoulder, an ivy leaf stands proudly upright between two inverted lotus flowers, symbolizing the beauty of nature. The body of the Lekythos features a captivating scene: a siren flanked by two draped male onlookers, one of whom grasps a spear upright. The scene is rendered in exquisite detail without the aid of added color or incisions. Below the figural zone, a horizontal band provides a subtle contrast to the solid black at the top of the foot. Interestingly, the side and underside of the vessel are reserved, adding an air of sophistication to its overall design. Although this Lekythos is largely intact, it bears chips on the top of the foot. The decoration has also worn and chipped over time, a testament to its age and enduring presence in the Ure Museum collection.
