I'm modifying a Vex system with a 1/2" hex shaft, requiring me to connect it to an aluminum rail using 1/4" screws in such a way that I can attach a potentiometer to the end of the hex shaft to track its position accurately. The compression force on the plastic part seems manageable so far, although this might be a highly specialized application, I'm sharing my solution anyway.
