DescriptionThe American government developed the Atoms for Peace program in 1955. The aim was to promote the peaceful use of nuclear power. As a contribution to this project, comic-strip artist and illustrator Frank Tinsley published his version of a nuclear-powered passenger airship in Mechanix Illustrated, a magazine for hobby mechanics. Tinsley's illustrations also found their way into specialist literature. The government remained sceptical and finally decided to build the civilian nuclear freighter Savannah.dirigibleaircrafttravelatomnuclearreactoratomicflightzeppelinairshipretrofuturismfuturismtilsneyfrankusaconcepthistorichistoric aircraft
