Atocha "MB" Olive Jar Neck 86.08.972
sketchfab
A stamped neck from an earthenware olive jar salvaged from the 1622 wreckage of the Nuestra Señora de Atocha bears a distinctive conjoined MB mark, identifying it as the personal property of Miguel de Munibe, a Peru-based merchant who was on board the ill-fated galleon when it sank with a massive cargo of silver. Typically used to transport wine, olive jars (known as botijas in Spanish) often carried a merchant's favorite vintages, and this marked jar may have been part of Munibe's personal collection, destined for his own table. Tragically, Munibe lost his life when the Atocha met its watery grave.
