Atlas Bipod Gear - Get rid of the slop!
thingiverse
Like many out there, I picked up one of the clones of the Atlas Bipods to find that the legs had a ton of play in them. Maybe ~.5" if measured from the feet, unextended. The gears in the bipod are made with horrible fit, so I remade mine. I now have zero slop in any position, and the legs still click into all positions. However, I did need to make separate sized gears for my left and right legs- showing that even the legs themselves (distance from pivot to locking pin) are not very well controlled. You can try mine and they should cut down on slop (since they're all around bigger with smaller pin indexing cutouts) but they probably won't be perfect due to the high variability in these. The "left" gear is slightly smaller than the "right" gear that iv'e attached. Start with the left and see how it fits. They're sized to maximize contact with the locating pin, however due to the material printed in I probably wouldn't use these with a powder burner. I'm using them with an airgun. So far mine have no experienced any increase in play. If there is interest, I could make a version with tapered holes such that they would fit universally and compensate for poor tolerances.
