Atherton Hall was a majestic country house and estate situated in Atherton, historically part of Lancashire, England. The hall stood tall between 1723-1742 as the proud ancestral seat of the Atherton family, who later passed their legacy by marriage into the esteemed Powys family before its unfortunate demolition in 1824. Numerous artefacts from the hall remain in the local area, including the original grandfather clock, now beautifully incorporated into Chowbent Chapel, Atherton; and the magnificent organ from the Hall, donated to St Oswald’s Church, Winwick, where it has been in use since. Further information on the rich history of Atherton Hall can be found at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atherton_Hall,_Leigh A digital reconstruction of the hall was created by Jeff Nield using Sketchup. Original architectural drawings, period portraiture, and invaluable information were generated by the Monument Men as part of their Atherton Hall and Lions Bridge Research Project.
