The little owl, Athene noctua, was first described by Scopoli in 1769. This common owl is known for its distinctive appearance and widespread distribution across Europe. In 2008, a specimen of the species was designated with the catalog number MZB 2008-0184. A left femur from this bird measures 35.76 millimeters in depth, indicating that it was a juvenile when it died. The owl's remains were found in Pals, a municipality located in the Baix Empordà comarca of Girona, Spain, on October 29, 2007.
