Athena Pallas Giustiniani
myminifactory
The Pallas Athena Giustiniani is an Antonine Roman marble replica of a Greek sculpture depicting the Pallas Athena, created in the late fifth or early fourth century BC. The statue is likely to have served as a cult image rather than a decorative cultural artifact. A serpent at Athena's right foot evokes the ancient myth of Ericthonius, who took on a serpentine form. Restorations include the forearms and the spear, while the sphinx on the goddess's Corinthian helmet has also been restored. This scan is taken from a cast housed in The SMK's Royal Cast Collection, which was created by casting the Museo Ciaramonti (ORIG 195).
