'Atef'-crown of King Ramesses II

'Atef'-crown of King Ramesses II

myminifactory

The "atef"-crown was traditionally worn by Osiris, a powerful deity associated with death and rebirth, yet it was also donned by the king during select ritual ceremonies. This illustration originally comprised a twice life-size statue depicting Ramesses II as he embodied Osiris. A majestic falcon supporting the crown from behind personified Horus, the revered god of kingship. An inscription etched onto the back listed the names and titles of Ramesses II, referencing his 'heb-sed', or jubilee celebration.
