The earliest representation of the Atef Crown can be traced back to the rule of Sahure in ancient Egypt's 5th Dynasty. At its center, a core element resembling the White Crown is crafted from plant fibers and accompanied by two ostrich feathers on either side. Typically worn atop a wig adorned with a simple circlet and horns, this headdress may also feature disks and uraei starting from the New Kingdom period onward. The term "atef," which first appears in the Coffin Texts, is subject to interpretation among scholars. It could signify "his power" or "his awe-inspiring presence," but even this definition remains unclear.
