I acquired a laser mouse upgrade kit for my Atari STE, but the product fell short in supporting the original Atari mouse. Online reviews indicated that it was incomplete. After obtaining the kit, I modified the design to work with the laser optics. The process required precision: two bits of trimming were necessary to ensure a flush fit before adding the PCB. The next steps involved installing the optics and a new sliding clip, which had to be done in preparation for attaching the PCB. Additional components included round parts and clamping spacers for securing the PCB. A notable issue arose when I noticed that the button height differed from the original design. To resolve this problem, I created basic square caps that could be placed over the buttons on the board, effectively raising them to a more suitable height.
