This sculpture portrays Atalante, a princess of Arcadia or Boeotia, depending on the account given by ancient sources. Her father, Iasus, had desired a son and abandoned his infant daughter, Atalanta, on a mountaintop to perish. However, a she-bear suckled and cared for her until hunters discovered and raised her. As she grew up in the wilderness, Atalante developed into a formidable hunter who always exuded happiness. She took an oath of virginity to the goddess Artemis. This object is part of "Scan The World," a non-profit initiative conceived by MyMiniFactory.
