Just another maker sign. Print with layer height of 0.3 and change the filament at z = 2.370 to use several filament colors. Scale the print to 130% for a size of ~130x112x3 mm. Have fun with the multicolor sign! #################################################################### Long story: I wanted to test whether printing with different filament colors is possible with the Dremel 3D40. Option 1: Sit next to the printer to pause the printer manually at a specific layer height (use the button on the display). Then change the filament. Not very comfortable and not precise but it works. Option 2: Automation - I've tried to use the CURA pause-at-z-height plug-in. With my current printer firmware, it doesn't work; the printer just won't pause. Option 3: Automation - I've asked Dremel DigiLab for information on suitable G-Code / M-Code commands to pause the print within the G-Code file. Unfortunately, they told me that their proprietary firmware of the Dremel 3D40 doesn't support such commands. Option 4: Automation - Although Dremel DigiLab said it wouldn't be possible to modify the G-Code file for my use case, I've tested using several G-Code commands found online. And, I finally found the right ones! Use a file editor and add these commands to your *.g3drem file before the specific z height of filament change: ;PAUSE AT Z HEIGHT G28 G5 ; PAUSE AT Z HEIGHT G1 Z2.370 F1200 The G28 homes all axes, and G5 pauses the print. You can now press the button for the filament change on the display of the 3D40 without waiting around. The extruder even cools down, giving you time to change the filament. It would be great to hear about your multicolor experiences with the 3D40! Maybe you've found a better solution for multicolor printing?
